Florida’s Impressive Start Gone With Loss to USA
The young Florida Gators had the look of a team that could go from SEC afterthought to a scary top four NCAA Tournament seed two weeks ago.
Since then Florida has lost three consecutive games to Syracuse, Richmond, and South Alabama. Tonight’s loss came off of a last second putback by the Jaguars. While it’s conceivable that all three teams to defeat the Gators could make the Big Dance, Florida has lost its edge. In most of their losses, the Gators have been outshot from the three point.
For Gators fans, it’s hard to find a silver lining. If there is one, it could be that this Florida team actually has a huge win out of conference against a team that is seen as one of the nation’s strongest (Michigan State). Florida also still has Xavier left in what could be a big bubble game.
Billy Donovan will have to find a way to turn the season around to avoid a third consecutive trip to the NIT.
